YOUR LEADERSHIP EXPEDITION

Better appreciate history and how it can help you become a better leader.

Studies over the years show Americans of all ages fail to answer the simplest of questions about America.

Why is it that most Americans don’t understand what it means to be a citizen of our United States?

Are we experiencing a leadership deficit in America today? In both the public and private sectors, there is certainly no shortage of leaders—but the quality of leadership is often not aligned with the expectations upon which most of us depend.

It is a generational, if not existential, problem. Because if we don’t inspire younger generations to learn more about our nation’s critical past—and educate them on the events, people and places that have made America what it is today—where will we be tomorrow?

As citizens of these United States, are we concerned about the 250 years that lie ahead for future generations?

Introducing LeadX

LeadX is shorthand for “Leadership Expeditions,” and it honors the 250 year anniversary of the United States--our nation's "Semiquincentennial."

By launching an overland expedition across the United States, LeadX will explore the compelling, complex, and rich shared histories that have made us who we are.

In the run up to our nation's 250th birthday—on July 4, 2026—we have undertaken an effort to visit our nation's towns, cities, coastlines, and most significant landmarks to provide you with a unique window to how America got its start, leading to where we are today.

Throughout this adventure, our goal is to share with you the stories of the men and women who made an enduring impact throughout our history. Because their example—if we choose to listen—is just as compelling today, as it was in their day!

Meet John

John Fenzel is a senior Army Special Forces officer who has served on our nation’s battlefields around the world. He has served as a military assistant on the personal staff of the Secretary of Defense, as a Special Assistant to the Vice President, and as a White House Fellow during the Clinton and Bush administrations.

He commanded the Special Forces Training Battalion at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and an Army brigade at Fort Knox, Kentucky.  In the wake of the September 11th attacks, he served as Staff Director for Tom Ridge in the Homeland Security Council. He was the principal architect of The Homeland Advisory System, our nation’s color-coded alert system.

After stepping out of uniform, John has been a senior corporate executive, speaker, author, and historian who has led applied leadership experiences from Gettysburg to Normandy, and everywhere in between

John believes that our best leaders—whether in government, business, academia, or the non-profit sectors—have one thing in common: They keep one foot in the present, another in the future, and they never hesitate to reach back to the present for valuable perspective.

JOINING THE LEADX VIRTUAL EXPERIENCE WILL TRANSFORM YOU—AND YOUR PERSPECTIVE OF HISTORY.

What Our Supporters Are Saying

Thomas CT Canham

“I would like to thank you for making a video about my great grandfather Major General Charles D W Canham. I never see anything about him except for the rare mention of him in books on WWII.”

George Aldridge, Jr.

John, Great! Thanks for saying Hi to my Dad. I really enjoyed our time together. Attached is the list I found after my dad’s death on his time in Europe.

Tom Neale

“We had to stop the Q&A after 20 minutes... John left to a standing ovation from a grateful audience. As Co-Chair, many approached me afterwards saying “that was the best ACG keynote speaker I have ever heard.” I concur.

If you want your company or association to receive a presentation on leadership that they will never forget, schedule Green Beret Colonel John Fenzel. You will not be disappointed.”
